Spring 2020 Student Accomplishments
The Reginald F. Lewis College of Business at Virginia State University celebrated the following Spring 2020 student accomplishments.
(1) Christine Bautista (MISY major) and Reem Idris (Marketing major) earned paid internships for the semester with our friend Michael Edwards at The Leadership and Achievement Academy in Richmond.
(2) Hirut Sheta (Marketing major) was admitted to graduate school both at George Washington University and at LIM College for fashion design in New York City; Hirut is our second student in two years to be admitted to LIM after Aneja Padgett (Marketing major and 18 grad) was admitted, attended and graduated.
(3) Destiny Hodges (Marketing major) earned a new $1,000 scholarship from the community for her academic prowess.
(4) Tamia Reese (Marketing major) participated in a Virginia’s Gateway Region networking event in Chesterfield with fifteen businesses.
(5) Cyrus Jones (Accounting major) accepted a full-time position for after graduation in Atlanta at AT&T in the property tax division.
(6) Lucinda Conteh (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer at TD Bank in New Jersey.
(7) Darius Holeman (Management major) earned a paid summer internship for the summer at Eli Lilly at a location to be determined.
(8) Christine Bautista (MISY major), Darius Holeman (Management major), Tamia Reese (Marketing major), and Sydney Sears (Management major) participated in the Madison + Main media mixer in Richmond with forty businesses.
(9) Jaylin Crawley (Management/HR major) earned a HR internship for the semester in Virginia Hall in Human Resources.
(10) Richard Green (MISY major) earned a paid co-op in IT at AdvanSix in Hopewell.
(11) Done’ Prunty (Marketing major) earned an internship for the summer at Lincare.
(12) Nia Howell (Marketing major) earned a paid marketing internship for the semester at Richmond International Raceway.
(13) Kyla Frank (Management major) earned MVP at the CIAA Indoor Track Championships
(14) Ludny Balisage (Accounting major) earned a paid internship in accounting for the summer at TIAA.
(15) Qahir Girard (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer in Atlanta at the CDC Public Health Leader Fellowship Program at Morehouse College.
(16) Alexia Worthey (Accounting major) delivered a healthy baby girl on Monday; Alexia is a proud new mommy!
(17) Jahla Mercer-Smith (Accounting major) earned a paid summer internship in accounting at the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General in Arlington.
(18) Miciyala Amey (MISY major), David Buchanan (Management major), Kirsten Curran (Marketing major), C. J. Epperson (Management major), and Shaneka King (MISY major) shadowed at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and participated in networking.
(19) Marcus Jones (Management major) and Hirut Sheta (Marketing major) visited Charlotte for the CIAA tournament attending the career expo.
(20) Kyla Frank (Management major) participated in a lunch and learn with Subhash Jaini (CEO) at Precizion.
(21) Twenty-five students in Investments and in Career Launch hosted Eric Kauders, Market President for Bank of America Private Wealth, in the classroom. A big thanks to Hari Sharma and Steve Holeman for their hospitality!
(22) Thirty students in Intro to Business hosted Stephen Feher, Vice President of Internet Consulting Services at the Ridgefield Group, in the classroom. A big thanks to Louis Dabney for his hospitality!
(23) Thirty students participated in Advansix Day including interfacing with the IT recruiters.
(24) Twenty students participated in Teleperformance Day including interfacing with the call center recruiter.
(25) Ten students participated in U.S. Marine Corps. Day including interfacing with the recruiters.
(26) Sixty students participated in Federal Emergency Management Day including interfacing with the recruiters.
(27) Twelve students interviewed for a marketing internship with Steve Bassett Songs.
(28) Bethelhem Beza (MISY major) earned an interview with Lockheed Martin and will be flown next week to Colorado courtesy of the Fortune 500 giant.
(29) Christine Bautista (MISY major) participated in the College’s Industry Council(s) meeting hosted by Fulton Bank in Richmond.
(30) Twenty students in Intro to Accounting hosted Owen Matthews, Chief Financial Officer at Kings Dominion, in the classroom. A big thanks to Art Wharton for his hospitality!
(31) Stephen Harris (Marketing major) was the Top Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Mass Mutual and Hopewell City Public Schools.
(32) Malaika Lillard (Accounting major) purchased a home in Richmond and started a new accounting position for the Virginia State Police; Malaika was previously in accounting at Markel.
(33) Kiara Starks (MISY major) earned an invite to participate in the Goldman Sachs Exploratory Program in March.
(34) Destiny Smith (Accounting major) earned a paid internship for the semester at the Virginia Housing Development Authority in Richmond.
(35) David Buchanan (Management major), Jarrett Carolina (Marketing major), Jaylin Crawley (Management/HR major), Kyla Frank (Management major), Destiny Hodges (Marketing major), Marcus Jones (Management major), Manny Saunders (Management/HR major), and Alex Wade (MISY major) participated in VSU Lobby Day at the General Assembly in Richmond with President Abdullah to advocate for the University meeting with legislators.
(36) Thirty students in Principles of Marketing hosted Brian Anderson, CEO at ChamberRVA, in the classroom. A big thanks to Yun Lee for her hospitality!
(37) Stephen Harris (Marketing major) was the Top Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Randstad, Markel, PPD, Dominion Energy, ChamberRVA, and the U.S. Army.
(38) Cyrus Jones (Accounting major) and Catera Ruth (MISY major) earned invites to participate in the Moguls in the Making competition in Detroit in April.
(39) David Buchanan (Management major) shadowed Gerald Carter (Partner) at Harrell & Chambliss in Richmond.
(40) Fifteen students in Business Communications hosted Jack Berry (CEO) at Richmond Region Tourism in the classroom. A big thanks to Alex Weimer for his hospitality!
(41) Michael Harris (Management major), Alahna Knight (Marketing major), and Jeremiah Page (Management major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by W.M. Jordan, Wildfire, Stratageum, New York Life, Dominion Energy, and One Degree Consulting.
(42) David Buchanan (Management major) participated in the Dominion Energy Strong Men & Women event in Richmond with scores of businesses.
(43) Fifteen students in Business Communications hosted Randy Wilson (CEO) of the HUF Center in the classroom. A big thanks to Alex Weimer for his hospitality!
(44) David Buchanan (Management major) participated in a Finance Networking event in Richmond at the Richmond Times Dispatch.
(45) Twelve students participated in an American Marketing Association focus group facilitated by Lauren Stewart (CEO) of Stewart Media.
(46) Forty students participated in the VSU Career Expo with forty-three employers. A big thanks to VSU Career Services!
(47) Hirut Sheta (Marketing major) was admitted to grad school at both Georgetown and at Yeshiva; she has now been admitted to four schools.
(48) Beyonce Allen (Marketing major) and Imani Pires (Management major) shadowed Chanel Brown (Business Development Coordinator) at W.M. Jordan.
(49) Manny Saunders (Management/HR major) shadowed Judy Gibson (HR Director) at NBC12.
(50) Nia Howell (Marketing major) shadowed Kayleigh Crandell (Marketing Director) at Napier Realtors.
(51) Kirsten Curran (Marketing major), Jeremiah Page (Management major) and Stephen Harris (Management major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Dunlap & Partners, Urban Development Corp, Fort Lee Federal Credit Union, and HRichNetWorks.
(52) Twenty-five students participated in a lunch and learn with Roger Williams (Senior Associate Director) from Johns Hopkins University.
(53) Twenty students in Business Communications hosted Ida Pierce (Manager of Process and Technology) from Markel in the classroom. A big thanks to Alex Weimer for his hospitality!
(54) Kyla Best (Marketing major), Destiny Blount (Management major), Kyla Frank (Management major), and Mychala Walker (Marketing minor) participated in the VA21 Lobby Day including visiting with legislators at the General Assembly and joining scores of undergraduates from other institutions of higher learning.
(55) Kelvin Harris (MISY major) and Alex Wade (MISY major) participated in a roundtable conversation with Brian Jamison (Cybersecurity and Cloud Security Sales) from Microsoft.
(56) Unique Lotman (Accounting major) shadowed Vaughan Long (Owner) at Tax Solutions Alliance.
(57) Hirut Sheta (Marketing major) earned a paid marketing internship for the balance of the semester with The Economist magazine.
(58) Imahni Harris (Management major) earned an internship for the balance of the semester at the HUF Center in Colonial Heights.
(59) Ron Chambliss (Management/HR major) earned a paid internship for the summer in D.C. at the Federal Department of Transportation.
(60) Bethelhem Beza (MISY major) earned a full-time position for after graduation in IT at Raytheon.
(61) David Buchanan (Management major), Chamyra Riddick (Management major), Hirut Sheta (Marketing major), and Jahmeil Wright (Marketing major) attended a ballet performance of Swan Lake in Richmond with their closest 3,000 friends and participated in an industry reception guests of Hugh Steiner (Managing Director) for Morgan Stanley.

(63) Thirty students in Principles of Real Estate hosted representatives from Commercial Real Estate for Women in the classroom. A big thanks to Steve Holeman for his hospitality!
(64) Sixty students participated in RVA Career Expo Day including interfacing with industry representatives.
(65) Fifty-five students participated in Kings Dominion Day including meeting with recruiters.
(66) Gabrielle Dixon (Accounting major) was the Top Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Wildfire and STEP-preneur.
(67) Fifteen students in Investments hosted Corey Holeman (Franchise Owner) from McDonalds in the classroom. A big thanks to Steve Holeman for his hospitality!
(68) Twenty-five students participated in Reginald F. Lewis Day at VSU including being provided copies of the College’s namesake’s book.
(69) David Buchanan (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer at Altria.
(70) Jaron Carney (Accounting major) earned a paid accounting internship for the summer in Philadelphia at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
(71) Hirut Sheta (Marketing major) earned a full-time position for after graduation at Toyota in their Manager in Training program.
(72) David Buchanan (Management major) shadowed Chief Judge Roger Gregory in Richmond.
(73) Kyle Jacobs (MISY minor) earned a $2,000 scholarship from Scroggs-Raper.
(74) Blaise Davenport (MISY major), Clifton Davis (Marketing major), Stephen Harris (Marketing major) and Jeremiah Page (Management major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Myers & Stauffer, Indispensable Marketing, Women’s Business Center, and Rosie’s.
(75) Sixty students participated in Atlantic Union Bank Day.
(76) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major and 18 grad) authored a book published and accessible for sale on Amazon; the name of the book is The Unconventional Guide to Adulting From A-Z.
(77) Christine Bautista (MISY major) earned a paid co-op in IT at AdvanSix in Hopewell; she along with Richard Green (MISY major) as previously announced will do a co-op effective May 1.
