Health Services

Student Health Services is open for appointments from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. The clinic is closed for lunch from 12pm to 1pm.

Your Trojan Card (student ID) must be provided for all services. There are no charges for clinic visits, and consultation visits.

Charges may be placed on your student account for the following:

  • Medical equipment, such as crutches or wheelchairs-These items are loaned to the students free of charge. A fee will be assessed if they are not returned.
  • Immunizations
  • Braces, supports, splints and reusable ice packs
  • Laboratory testing and Diagnostic testing (fees are billed directly by the laboratory provider, or diagnostic test provider to the student)
  • Prescription medications-Many over the counter medications are provided. When accessing Prescription medications, students are responsible for pharmacy fees, which must be paid with medical insurance or cash.

Students may schedule appointments with the Medical Providers and Registered Nurses. Walk in visits are available and will be seen on a “first come, first served” basis. If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please call to cancel it as soon as possible so that your appointment slot is available to other students who need one.

We are able to manage many acute and chronic conditions in the clinic. For conditions requiring diagnostic testing or more complex care, students may be referred to one of the hospitals, urgent care facilities or provider offices in our local community. The student is responsible for all fees incurred if care at a facility outside of VSU becomes necessary.

Transporation support to local providers, pharmacies and other facilities to obtain medications or treatments, is available. VSU has collaborated with a local transportation provider to assist our students with this need. Students will receive a voucher for transportation and the fee will be assessed to the student's account.

Trojan Health and Wellness reminds us to continue to take COVID-19 preventative measures and remember that Personal Protective Equipment is available to all students and employees campus-wide. For more information on VSU’s COVID-19 protocol, please visit the COVID-19 Dashboard.

We take the health of our VSU students seriously! All full-time freshman, graduate, and transfer students are required by Virginia State Law to submit health evaluation forms, including a health history, immunization records, and a Tuberculosis (TB) screening.

The forms and documentation of immunizations must be received prior to completion of admission to VSU. Vaccination records and Admissions forms should be submitted by the student to Medicat (VSU’s Student Health Portal). Required vaccinations are available to students who need them able to receive them at the Student Health Center. A charge will be placed on the students account for vaccinations administered in the clinic.

I have a health hold. What do I need to do to have it removed? Health holds are placed when health forms have not been received in a timely manner. Holds may also be placed when submitted records are incomplete or when your tetanus vaccine booster expires. Please contact the immunization clinic for specific information on what is needed to remove your health hold.

I am a Full-time/Graduate/Online/Non-traditional student. Do I still need to submit health forms? Yes, all full-time students, including those taking online classes, are required to submit the health forms. If you are a part-time student, please contact the immunization clinic about your enrollment status.

Where can I find a copy of the health forms? You can find the health evaluation forms here.

Do I need a physical? Currently, only student athletes are required to submit a physical. Athletes are required to submit a copy of their physicals to health services as well as their head coach and sports medicine.

Can I receive vaccinations on campus? We offer the tetanus and MMR vaccines as well as Tuberculosis skin tests (PPD) at Memorial hall. Please call to set up an appointment.

How can I submit my health forms?
- Upload your forms online in Medicat
- Fax number: 804-524-5026

I am unable to locate my immunization records, what should I do?
Students who have incomplete records will need to repeat their vaccinations or get blood work known as “Titers” drawn to show immunity to specific diseases.

I do not wish to receive one or more vaccines. Can I submit a waiver?
There are waivers included in the health evaluation form packet for the Hepatitis B and Meningitis vaccine (page 15). All other required vaccinations can only be waived using a Medical Waiver signed by a health care professional or notarized religious waiver.
