Your FAFSA was sent to the Social Security Administration to verify your citizenship status. The Social Security Administration was not able to confirm that you are a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.

If you are a U.S. citizen, please submit one of the following documents: U.S. Birth Certificate, U.S. Birth Abroad Certificate, U.S. Passport, Certificate of Naturalization, or Certificate of Citizenship.

If you are an eligible non-citizen, please submit one of the following documents: non-expired Permanent Residence Card, non-expired Resident Alien Card, valid non-expired Form 1-94 or 1-94A, or valid non-expired Machine-Readable Immigrant Visa (MRIV).

The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) indicated that you are in Default on at least one federal student loan. This means you have failed to repay the loan according to the loan terms you agreed to when you complete the master promissory note.

To regain eligibility for federal student aid, please provide to VSU’s Financial Aid Office documentation from the Department of Education, or a letter on institutional letterhead from the school associated with the loan, that your loan is either paid in full or has been consolidated, or that you are meeting satisfactory repayment arrangements.

The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) indicated on your FAFSA that you have an overpayment of federal student aid funds.

You must provide documentation from the Department of Education or a letter on institutional letterhead from the school associated with the aid that your overpayment is either paid in full or that you are making satisfactory repayment arrangements.

Your FAFSA information shows that you are a veteran. The Department of Veteran's Affairs could not confirm your status as a veteran. Please submit a copy of your long form DD214

The U.S. Department of Education flagged your 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for “Unusual Enrollment History Review” due to your receipt of federal funds at multiple education institutions during the last four academic years. This flag requires Virginia State University to review your enrollment history and determine if there are legitimate reasons for your enrollment at multiple institutions.

Please submit VSU’s Unusual Enrollment History Form, and all documentation requested on the form.

There is information on your 2024-2025 FAFSA that shows foreign earned income. In order for the financial aid office to assess the impact this information has on your financial aid eligibility, we request you submit one of the following documents: a transcript from the IRS or other relevant tax authority of a U.S. territory or commonwealth, or a foreign government, that lists 2022 tax account information of the tax filer; or a copy of the income tax return and the applicable schedules  that were filed with the IRS or other relevant tax authority of a U.S. territory, or a foreign government.

Students under the age of 24 are often required to provide parental data on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A dependent student who meets the definition of an unaccompanied youth and is homeless, or is self-supporting and at risk of being homeless, may be deemed an independent student (for federal student aid purposes only) by the VSU Financial Aid Office. Submit the Unaccompanied Youth form.
