Employment Opportunities
Virginia State University Federal Work-Study and Work-Aid Programs are committed to providing students with an opportunity for employment. The main objective of the employment programs is financial support, but on-the-job training experience is also important.
College Work-Study
Federal College Work-Study Program provides jobs for students who must earn a part of their educational expenses. Priority is given to students who have completed a FAFSA by March 31st of each year and enrolled on at least a half-time basis. Students will be expected to perform the work that is agreed upon when accepting the FWS award. Students may not earn more than the amount in their award letter and can work a maximum of 20 hours per week while classes are in session. The Work-Study/Regular Student Employment Coordinator will notify work-study recipients of their agency of employment by the beginning of the academic year or semester. It is the student and supervisor's responsibility to ensure that a properly completed work-study time record sheet is submitted to the Payroll Office by noon of the last working day of each month unless otherwise directed.
Regular Student Employment
This program provides jobs for students who are unable to qualify for the Federal Work-Study program. Virginia State University makes these funds available for students who possess a needed skill or talent. Students are employed in a variety of university offices and departments while developing their work schedules around their academic schedules. Students must be at least part-time and maintain a 2.00 grade point average.
