Fall 2021 Residential/Move-In FAQ’s
Will classes be on-line or face-to-face in fall 2021?
The majority of classes offered will be face-to-face; however, a few will be on-line or hybrid. In the event of a positive COVID case or exposure, classes may be converted to on-line during the 10 to 14 day isolation/quarantine.
Will vaccines be required in fall 2021?
No, students are encouraged to be vaccinated, but it is not required. All students will be tested during the Move-In process. The University will conduct student surveillance (random) testing throughout the semester.
Will I be required to be vaccinated if I am not living on campus?
All students are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated; however, students not living on campus will be tested during the Move In/UAE/Commuter student process. The University will conduct student surveillance (random) testing throughout the semester. Vaccinated students can upload proof of vaccination to MediCat.
If I have been vaccinated, will I still need to be COVID-19 tested?
Yes. All students will be tested during the move-in process. The University will conduct student surveillance (random) testing throughout the semester.
What happens if I test positive during Move-In?
Students who test positive upon move in will have two options:
- Student may return home.
- Student may move into the isolation/quarantine space for the 10-to14 day period. Meals will be provided.
Are masks required on campus?
If you are vaccinated and in your room alone, you are not required to wear a mask. However, if you are in a common space shared with other students, you must wear a mask.
If you are not vaccinated, you are required to wear a mask at all times with the exception of in your room alone or outdoors in settings where you are able to maintain the appropriate social distancing. If you have a medical condition that restricts you from wearing a mask or face covering, please contact Student Health Services.
What is my housing assignment?
Students can check their housing assignment in Banner Self-Service via MyHousing Portal. Students must register for classes to access the housing application.
Can I pick my roommate?
Yes. Requested roommate’s name should be listed on housing application.
Are vaccinations required to have a roommate?
No. However, all students have the option to request their roommates in advance.
Can students cancel room assignments and meal plans?
Yes, students can cancel their room assignments and meal plans. Email reslife@vsu.edu – include full name, V-number and reason for cancellation. The email will serve as written documentation of request for fall 2021 housing cancellation.
Will there be a housing cancellation fee assessed?
A $500 cancellation fee will be assessed to student’s account if they cancel housing assignment outside of dates in Housing and Food Service Agreement.
What is the move-in process this semester?
All students are asked to adhere to the move-in schedule posted on the website. In addition, if there are any outstanding documents (financial aid form, health forms, etc.), these items must be submitted prior to arrival to aid in the validation process. Students will be directed to the Multi-Purpose Center where they will do the following:
- Screened for validation, and pick up of the “Stop the Spread Agreement”;
- COVID tested
- Verification of missing Health Records
- VSU Photo ID station
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) pick up
- Housing table to pick up residence hall information and admittance pass.
Three other family members will be permitted to assist with move in. Masks will be required for all students, and family members in the Residence Halls.
What should I bring? What should I not bring?

Is the $150 room lottery fee refundable?
The $150.00 advance room payment is nonrefundable. The $150.00 paid will be credited to the students account as a payment toward the students overall bill. If the student has decided not to attend VSU, they can be eligible to receive the $150.00 refundable damage deposit. The student will need to email reslife@vsu.edu to make this request and indicate that they will not be attending VSU.
If a student does not have fall 2021 housing, are they still eligible for Spring 2022 housing?
Students will be eligible for spring housing even if they do not have housing for the fall. This will be contingent on available space at that time. Students will need to complete a spring 2022 housing application online beginning November 1. There will be no fee to complete the spring 2022 housing application. If there is no damage deposit on file, then that will be the only fee required.
Are students required to accept their housing assignment?
Students are not required to accept their assignment. However, if the student does not move-in on the scheduled date, they will need to notify Residence Life and Housing so that their housing assignment will not be cancelled as a no-show.
Can I still request a single room?
Students can request a single space, but they are not guaranteed.
How can a student obtain a space at the University Apartments at Ettrick (UAE) and how are the charges billed?
Students inquiring about living at UAE must contact the UAE management office directly at 804-524-5153 to inquire about available space. Charges are billed to the student account.
What is the campus visitation policy?
Campus visitation will be limited. Students will not be allowed to have non-student visitors in the residence halls. Students will need to meet their family members at the front door of the residence hall and visit outside.
What activities are planned for the academic year?
Student Activities will provide a calendar of events for 2021-2022 academic year.
Will the gym open?
Yes. Hours of operation are posted at the gym. Vaccinations will be required to play intramural sports.
