General Education Assessment of Student Learning Committee

Virginia State University assessment will rely on faculty-driven assessment practices. The General Education Assessment of Student Learning Committee will oversee the assessment process. The committee will consist of five members serving as representatives for their assigned competency team. Membership of the competency teams will reflect the General Education program and university divisions that will be assessed. The teams are responsible for guiding the assessment practices. The teams will function collectively as the assessment subcommittee and score artifacts across all clusters.

The Gen Ed Assessment of Student Learning Committee will include representatives from the following university departments.

The Gen Ed Assessment of Student Learning Committee provides guidance on the extent and type of academic assessment initiatives.

The specific responsibilities are as follows:

  1. Develop the general education student learning outcomes and rubrics
  2. Develop policies and procedures related to the assessment of student learning
  3. Advise both the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness and the Associate Director of Institutional Research of any identified programmatic or resource needs.
  4. Submit an annual year-end report to include a summary of the year’s events and recommendations for follow-up actions.
