Human Subjects

The IRB ensures that all research involving human participants at Virginia State University is conducted ethically, responsibly, and in compliance with federal, state, and university regulations. We protect the rights, dignity, and welfare of research participants while supporting the advancement of knowledge.

Research is vital to innovation and discovery, but it must never compromise participant safety or autonomy. The IRB process:

• Protects participants from harm and undue risk.

• Ensures informed consent and voluntary participation.

• Promotes integrity and accountability in research practices.

• Builds trust between researchers and the community

Virginia State University complies with:

• 45 CFR 46 – Protection of Human Subjects (Federal Regulations)

• Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

All research involving human subjects must be reviewed and approved by the IRB before any data collection begins.

2. Attach required documents (Consent Statement, Assent Form, Protocol Summary).
