Mandatory Exit Loan Counseling

*ATTENTION GRADUATES*

You are REQUIRED by the U.S. Department of Education to complete an online “Exit Loan Counseling” if you have received a federal direct subsidized or unsubsidized loan while attending college.  

Failure to complete the mandatory exit counseling will result in you not receiving your diploma.

The Financial Aid Office will receive an electronic notification from the U.S. Department of Education (weekly) and your Banner account will be updated. You do not need to contact our office. Please check your Banner Self-Service account for updates.


Please follow the steps below for the online requirement.

Step 1:  Log on to https://studentaid.gov

Step 2:  Select “Loan Repayment” on this page

Step 3:  Select the topic “Loan Exit Counseling”

Step 4:  Select program type:  Undergraduate or Graduate

Step 5:  Select “Log In to Start

Step 6:  Accept Terms and Conditions

Step 7:  Scroll down the checklist then select “Start”

Step 8: Proceed until process is complete

Step 9:  Final screen will display Exit Counseling Summary

VSU will be notified within 24 hours after submission.


In addition, it is important that you are aware and understand the various repayment options available to you in managing your student loan debt.  You will have the opportunity to attend an In-Person Session or a Virtual Session listed below that will allow you to speak with a financial aid representative. No registration is required.

  • Remote Virtual Sessions: Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 10 am and 3 pm (link will be provided on the graduation website)
  • Face to Face Session: Wednesday, December 3, 2025 (Reading Day) at 4 pm; location is the Engineering Building - Auditorium
