VSU To Host The Leadership From The Only Engineering University Located In The Republic Of Moldova

Officials from the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) to visit VSU as part of a program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy.

Virginia State University is excited to welcome the Rector and President of the only higher education institution for engineering in Moldova, an Eastern European country and former Soviet republic. The leadership from the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) will visit VSU as part of an academic partnership and is also part of the Speaker Exchange Program facilitated by the U.S. Embassy in Moldova.

Last year, UTM welcomed three VSU professors to their country as a part of the partnership between the two universities that began in December 2021. This partnership will catalyze a long-term relationship involving several joint projects and an overall exchange of ideas between two leaders in engineering education.

"Entering this partnership was an easy decision for our leadership team," said Dr. Donald E. Palm, VSU Executive Vice President and Provost. "Virginia State University produces more Manufacturing and Computer Engineering graduates than any other university in the Commonwealth. We hope to further extend that record through this mutually beneficial relationship with the Technical University of Moldova."

Virginia State University and the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) hope to continue strengthening the Moldo-American partnership and deepening the dialogue on joint projects. These projects promote high-quality education, foster research, integrate young graduates into the workforce, and support the universities’ role in local and global development.

As part of the visit, the UTM Rector, Dr. Viorel Bostan, and the members of the UTM delegation will meet VSU President Dr. Makola Abdullah, Dr. Donald E. Palm, as well as Dr. Dawit Haile, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Robert Corley, Dean of the College of Agriculture; Dr. Emmanuel Omojokun, Dean of the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business; and VSU Professor Dr. Ceslav Ciobanu, who is from Moldova. The group will tour Petersburg, Richmond, Virginia State University, and neighboring universities.

This program supports the VSU Strategic Plan Priority 2 to sustain academic excellence. Virginia State University endeavors to strategically establish and enhance educational programs to deliver distinctive, responsive, and innovative offerings that effectively prepare leaders and scholars to meet the demands of a global society and workforce.
