Champions for Financial Legacy (CFFL)
Virginia State University (VSU) is excited to announce its participation in the Champions for Financial Legacy (CFFL) initiative, a dynamic and impactful program designed to foster financial education across HBCUs, scholars, and their surrounding communities.
What is CFFL?
CFFL is a practical and relevant financial education program with a decade of proven success in classrooms and communities, complemented by three additional years of development.
Key Highlights:
- Proven Effectiveness: Ten years of implementation and continued refinement.
- Empowering Partnerships: A collaborative effort with the Shawn Carter Foundation, the Coalition for Equity and Opportunity at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, and Toyota Motor North America.
- Commitment to Change: A shared mission to address and reduce the growing racial wealth gap.
Purpose
CFFL was developed to address systemic inequities in financial education and empower students to become financially fluent. This fluency enables them to impact their families and communities, initiating a ripple effect that changes the trajectory of intergenerational wealth. By equipping students with this vital knowledge, we are laying the groundwork for wealth-building opportunities for future generations.
Implementation at VSU
Starting in Spring 2025, the CFFL curriculum will be integrated into VSU's Personal Finance Management 305 course. Open to students of all majors, this course promises to deliver transformative financial insights and tools that students can use to empower themselves and their communities.
Together, we are building a legacy of financial empowerment, equity, and opportunity.
