Virginia State University Responds To Recent Tragedy Outside Main Campus
VSU addresses a recent tragic incident that occurred near the main campus over the weekend.
Dear Trojan Family, Parents, and Community Members,
The Virginia State University community was deeply affected by a tragic incident that occurred late Saturday night outside the secured, gated area of the main campus, in a parking lot that adjoins two public streets near the VSU Multipurpose Center.
While the investigation remains ongoing, we have confirmed that neither the victim nor the alleged perpetrators are affiliated with Virginia State University. No VSU students were involved or present when the crime occurred. VSU Police are working closely with Chesterfield County Police to assist in the ongoing investigation and to ensure the continued safety of our campus community.
We want to reassure you that the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff remain our top priority. VSU Police maintain a 24-hour presence on campus, conduct frequent patrols, and continue to partner with local law enforcement agencies to uphold a safe and secure environment.
Although the incident took place outside the secured gated area of the main campus and involved individuals not affiliated with Virginia State University, this event serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of safety and community vigilance. I urge every member of our Trojan Family to remain alert, look out for one another, and immediately report any suspicious activity to the VSU Police Department at (804) 524-5411.
Additionally, please sign up for RAVE Alerts to receive real-time campus safety updates and emergency notifications. Loved ones can also be added to receive these important messages.
While the victim was not our student, we recognize that any life lost to violence is one too many. We also know the impact that tragedies like this can have on our community. Those who need emotional support are encouraged to reach out. Students may contact the University Counseling Center at (804) 524-5939, and employees may work with their individual healthcare provider.
At Virginia State University, we firmly believe that a college campus is one of the best and safest environments for young men and women to learn, grow, and prepare for their futures. Together, we will continue to care for one another and strengthen the bonds that make our Trojan Family resilient and united.
