Media Mogul Roland Martin Brings National Spotlight To Virginia State University For Live Taping And Student Voter Rally
Award-winning journalist to headline VSU’s Trojan Voter Week and help register 1,000 new student voters.
Virginia State University is turning up the volume on student civic engagement with help from one of America’s most influential media voices. Roland Martin, award-winning journalist, political commentator, and host of Roland Martin Unfiltered, will visit VSU for a live taping and campus voter engagement event during Trojan Voter Week 2025.
The event will take place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the VSU Multi-Purpose Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
Martin’s live show will feature an interactive discussion on the power of the student vote, leadership in action, and the future of democracy through youth participation. His visit is part of VSU’s bold goal to register 1,000 student voters and strengthen lifelong civic habits among the Trojan community.
"Roland Martin is one of the most respected voices in Black media and civic engagement," said Dr. Wes Bellamy, Chair of the VSU Department of Political Science. "His visit is more than a special appearance—it’s a movement. Roland is helping us remind students that their voices and votes can transform communities and shape the future of our nation."
Running from October 14–17, Trojan Voter Week 2025 carries the theme “Your Voice. Your Power. Your Vote.” The four-day campaign will blend education, entertainment, and empowerment, with voter registration drives, campus competitions, and special events designed to make civic participation accessible, engaging, and fun.
Martin’s appearance underscores VSU’s growing role as a national leader in higher education civic engagement, particularly among HBCUs, driving voter education and turnout.
