Highly Anticipated VSU Homecoming Parade To Return To Full Route In 2024

The beloved University tradition will once again bring together students, alumni, and the local community for a festive celebration.

Virginia State University is proud to announce the return of its annual Homecoming Parade to its regular route for 2024. The parade is a time-honored tradition at VSU and is a staple of its Homecoming festivities.

After being scaled down and rerouted in 2023, the parade will once again begin at Union Train Station in Old Towne Petersburg and conclude at the VSU Multi-Purpose Center. The adjustments were previously necessary due to the closure of the Appomattox River Canal Bridge for repairs. The bridge has since reopened, providing direct access from Petersburg to the VSU campus.

“We couldn’t be more excited to return to our full Homecoming Parade experience,” said Regina Barnett-Tyler, Co-Chair of the Homecoming Committee. “This parade is one of VSU’s most cherished traditions, and we’re especially excited to reconnect with the broader community, bringing everyone together in celebration.”

The 2024 Homecoming Parade will take place on Saturday, October 12, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and is open to the public.

This year’s theme, “The Hill Unleashed,” promises to be an unforgettable Homecoming experience. For more information, including the full schedule of events and ticket purchases, please visit https://www.vsu.edu/homecoming.php.
