VSU Honors Former Military Professor with Room Named in His Honor
VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY, VA- On Saturday, September 2, 2021, Virginia State University officially named a room in Jesse Bolling Hall, the University’s ROTC building, in honor of Lieutenant Colonel, Dr. Jona McKee. The VSU alumnus, military graduate, and former professor was honored for his years of service to both Virginia State University and our country.
Dr. McKee served as the first graduate of Virginia State University to return as a Professor of Military Science. He increased program enrollment by more than 100 percent and commissioned more 260 officers during his tenure. Dr. McKee also helped to raise more than $1 million for VSU, created the University Athletic Hall of Fame, and served in several leadership roles on campus.
In May, VSU presented Lt. Colonel McKee with an honorary doctorate degree during its spring 2021 commencement ceremony in honor of his contributions to the University.
