VSU Spring 2022 COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies

Greetings Trojan Family and Happy Holidays!

As we look forward to the spring 2022 semester, we wanted to share updates on our COVID-19 mitigation strategies/health and safety efforts.

Virginia State University continues to monitor the trend in data regarding the spread of the new omicron COVID-19 variant.  VSU remains committed to the health and wellness of our university community.    Currently, full vaccination combined with the booster is the most effective strategy available to reduce the spread of the virus and provide safety to those around you.  Therefore, full COVID-19 vaccination and booster shots will be required for all students, faculty and staff for the Spring 2022 Semester.  COVID-19 Booster Shot Clinics will be held at Virginia State University from January 11, 2022 through January 16, 2022.  Please watch for additional communication the week of January 3, 2022 to register for the clinic.

To comply with this requirement, all VSU students attending in the spring 2022 semester must upload proof of an approved booster shot to the Medicat Portal (Click here) no later than February 1, 2022. Those who are not eligible to receive their booster by February 1, 2022 must submit proof of their booster no later than 30 days following their first day of eligibility.

University faculty and staff must also upload proof of an approved booster shot through the Medicat Portal (Click here) no later than February 1, 2022. Those who are not eligible to receive their booster by February 1, 2022 must submit proof of their booster no later than 30 days following their first day of eligibility. VSU will continue to follow CDC guidance by requiring social distancing and mandatory mask and face coverings inside all on-campus spaces.

As a reminder, all Trojans, (students, faculty, staff and administrators) will have to take a COVID test on arrival or prior to returning to campus.  Proof of a COVID test can be uploaded to the Medicat Portal (Click here) or you can take a test at Whiting Hall beginning January 3, 2022 or at Daniel’s Gymnasium beginning January 11, 2022.

If you previously received a medical or religious exemption from the University’s vaccine requirement, you will automatically be exempt from this new booster requirement and do not need to take any further action, other than to continue complying with testing requirements and other public health policies.

Have a Safe and Blessed New Year!!!

Respectfully,

Donald E. Palm III, Ph.D.
