College of Business Spring 2023 Student Accomplishments

The Reginald F. Lewis College of Business at Virginia State University celebrated the following spring 2023 student accomplishments.  

(1) Alex Dayle (Accounting major) earned an internship for the summer in New York at Mutual of America Financial Group; also of note, Alex earned two externships for the summer including at KPMG in Orlando and at Medtronic in Minnesota.

(2) Trinity Burton (Accounting major) was admitted to Penn State to earn a graduate degree in accounting.

(3) Chantice Fortune (Management major) visited with Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne at the Executive Mansion relevant to Black History Month and the VSU Gospel Chorale.

(4) Isaac Savage (Accounting major) earned a paid internship in accounting for summer 2024 at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Richmond. 

(5) Kenizjha Jackson (Management major), Bry’on Jenkins (Accounting major), Asia McCann (Marketing major), and Nia Winston (Management/HR major) were accepted in to the Atlantic Union Bank Scholars Program to include receipt of a $5,000 scholarship and paid summer internship at the bank. 

(6) Janay Samuel (Marketing major) earned a summer remote externship with Paragon One in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

(7) Chris Lawrence (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer in Atlanta at Koch Industries.

(8) Josalyn Green-Jones (Management major) earned a paid HR internship for the spring, summer, and fall at Richmond International Airport.

(9) Thomasina Williams (Management major) earned a full time position for after graduation in May as a Customer Service Associate at Dominion Energy in Richmond.

(10) James Owusu-Agyemang (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer at Lincoln Financial.

(11) Marcus Jones (Management major) earned a full time position for after graduation in May at C&F Bank in Richmond relevant to the Management in Training Program. 

(12) TyAsia Williams (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer in Richmond at Blue Ridge Bank.   

(13) Isaac Savage (Accounting major) earned a paid summer internship at VSU's Data Science for the Public Good (DSPG) program.

(14) Sakile Cobb (Marketing major) earned a post-grad internship in Chicago on the TV show Chicago Med where she will be responsible for all of the actors’ hair.

(15) Nigel Stewart (Accounting major) earned a full-time position for after graduation in May at Atlantic Union Bank in the position of Procurement Analyst; Nigel interned at Atlantic Union Bank and is an Atlantic Union Scholar. 

(16) Andreanna Nembhard (Marketing major) earned an invite to participate in the Bank of America Careers Launchpad Conference to be held February 16-17 in New York City.

(17) Emanuel Harris (Marketing major) earned a paid marketing internship for the semester in the College of Agriculture.

(18) Indacia Turner (Accounting major) earned a $7,800 scholarship from PwC.

(19) Helena Abu (Marketing major), Justin Anderson (Marketing major), Elianna Benavidez (Accounting major), Blaise Davenport (Information Systems major), Alahna Knight (Marketing major), Chris Lawrence (Management major), Jujuan Peel (Management major), Nigel Stewart (Accounting major) and Josiah Woodies (Management major) earned an invite to participate in the VA21 Conference and Lobby Day to be held on February 8 & 9 in Richmond.

(20) LyAsia Monroe (Management major) and Isaac Savage (Accounting major) participated in the Commonwealth Association for Financial Professionals conference at the Virginia Society of CPAs in Richmond.

(21) Jujuan Peel (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer in Richmond with our friends at Spider Management where he will be responsible for investments.

(22) Jazlyn Edmunds (Management major) earned a paid internship for the balance of the semester at Dinwiddie County in the Treasurer’s Office. 

(23) Malik Alston (Management major) participated in a shadow visit with our friends at Morgan Stanley in Richmond including Dan Price (District Leader); the outcome of the visit included Malik being admitted to the Morgan Stanley mentoring program.

(24) Jujuan Peel (Management major) participated in a Virginia’s Gateway Region legislative meet and greet with Delegate Kim Taylor along with twenty businesses.

(25) Emani Bryan (Management major), Marquis Mason (Marketing major) and Nylan Taylor (Marketing major) participated in the Southern Virginia Chamber of Commerce annual dinner with sixty businesses.

(27) Emanuel Harris (Marketing major) attended the VCU Fashion Show at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and joined industry and non-profit partners like Angela Patton (CEO) from Girls for A Change and Kyle Wiggins (Enterprise Account Executive) at LogicMonitor.

(28) Amel Frye (Management major) earned a full time position as a Senior Analyst at Teleperformance in Richmond for after graduation in May.

(29) Adaisha Jordan (Marketing major) earned an internship for the summer at Synapse in Richmond and an externship at Groundworks RVA in Richmond.

(30) Blaise Davenport (Information Systems major) earned a full-time IT position at The Trivas Group in Maryland for after graduation this month.

(32) Alahna Knight (Marketing major) earned a full-time position at TowneBank in Norfolk for after graduation next month. 

(33) Aaron Clayton (Accounting major) earned a position in the VSU Budget Office for after graduation next month. 

(34) Jaylon Dean (Management major) was admitted to VSU to earn a graduate degree in sports management.

(37) Forty students participated in National Glass Association Day with Alicia Hamilton (Operations Manager) including a lunch and learn and in the classroom relevant to Seminar: Issues in Management.  A big thanks to Ju Jin for his hospitality!

(38) Fifteen students hosted Kayla Faulkner (Auditor) from the Institute of Internal Auditors in the classroom relevant to Accounting Information Systems.  A big thanks to Leah Hall for her hospitality!

(39) Brandon Anderson (Information Systems major), Aaron Clayton (Accounting major), Cameron Coram (Entrepreneurship minor), Avianca Jackson (Marketing major), Marcus Jones (Management major), Laila Knight (Management major), Jaycee Lowe (Marketing major), Marquis Mason (Marketing major), Jasmine Pierce (Marketing major), Nylan Taylor (Marketing major), Tyasia Williams (Management major) and Tony Tucker (Accounting major) participated in a luncheon with Geoffrey Starks and Brendan Carr (Commissioners) from the Federal Communications Commission relevant to VSU’s receipt of a $2.2 million grant for broadband.

(40) Joe’l Bowers (Management major), Blaise Davenport (Information Systems major), Josalyn Green-Jones (Management major), Scott Hill (Information Systems major), Heaven Jenkins (Marketing major), Amari Johnson (Marketing major), Chris Lawrence (Management major), Ziani Lee (Management major), Jharyta Loveless (Accounting major), Jasmine Pierce (Marketing major), Nylan Taylor (Marketing major), Tony Tucker (Accounting major) and Josiah Woodies (Management major) hosted twenty high school students from Hopewell for workshops and orientation to college and career.

(42) Fesaija Foster (Information Systems major), Josalyn Green-Jones (Management major), Isaac Savage (Accounting major) and Tony Tucker (Accounting major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Ball Office Products, Gilbane Building Company, Beam Suntory, Chesterfield County Public Schools, and Kearney & Company.

(43) Thirty students in Personnel & Human Resource Management hosted Emilie Laliberte (Talent Acquisition Manager) from Sandbox in the classroom. A big thanks to Sachiko Wooten for her hospitality!

(44) Twenty students participated in Northwestern Mutual Day with Jeff Hammer (Regional Leader).

(45) Forty students participated in Atlantic Union Day with Jennifer Huffman (Recruiter) including in the classroom relevant to Personal Finance Management. A big thanks to Steve Holeman for his hospitality!

(46) Merwan Mohamed (Accounting major) earned a paid internship for the summer in the Dinwiddie County Treasurer’s Office. 

(47) Philip Neubia (Management major) earned a full time position for after graduation in May in Richmond at Blue Ridge Bank. 

(48) Davon Bell (Management major) earned an invite to participate in an externship with the NFL relevant to the NFL Draft to be held in Kansas City April 27 - April 29.

(49) Geoffrey Love (Management major), Asian McCann (Marketing major), Tyasia Williams (Management major), and Josiah Woodies (Management major) were accepted in to the Morgan Stanley Mentoring Program and assigned mentors; they join Malik Alston (Management major) as previously announced.

(50) Avianca Jackson (Marketing major) earned an invite to host a pop up shop relevant to her business Blucess at the Diamond at multiple Squirrels games this season.

(51) Ruqayah Ebrahim (Management major) hosted a pop up shop relevant to her business Qt Blinx at the VSU Overlook.

(52) Aaron Clayton (Accounting major), Jaylen McPherson (Management major) and Jasmine Pierce (Marketing major) participated in the VA21 Luncheon at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond.

(54) Duchess Ayettey (Marketing major), Cameron Coram (Entrepreneurship minor), Christian Cozart (Marketing minor), Blaise Davenport (Information Systems major), Amel Frye (Management major), Shaniece Gentry (Management major), Jamilla Henderson (Management major), Avianca Jackson (Marketing major), Heaven Jenkins (Marketing major), Iyana Logan (Accounting major), Jaycee Lowe (Marketing major), Asia McCann (Marketing major), Liyla Riley (Information Systems major), Indacia Turner (Accounting major), and Tyasia Williams (Management major) participated in a fitting with Ashley Jefferson (Owner) from Very Ashley relevant to a fashion show.

(55) Forty-five students participated in GRF CPAs Day with Benjamin Sellers (Recruiter) including a lunch and learn along with in the classroom relevant to Intro to Accounting and Intro to Accounting II.  A big thanks to Art Wharton for his hospitality!

(56) Kirsten Coghill (Management major), Justin Grandison (Management major), and Nylan Taylor (Marketing major) participated in a ribbon cutting with Governor Glenn Youngkin pertinent to the Partnership for Petersburg.

(57) Amari Johnson (Marketing major) and Adaisha Jordan (Marketing major) participated in the Greater Richmond Association of Commercial Real Estate dinner at the Country Club of Virginia with fifty businesses.

(58) Forty-three students earned a certification in SAP.

(59) Two hundred thirty-nine students were presented awards at the 49th Annual Awards Day ceremony for the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business.

(60) Zoe Parks (Management major) earned a paid summer internship in Orlando at Disney; she will join Andreanna Nembhard (Marketing major) as previously announced. 

(61) Scott Hill (Information systems major) participated in an IT 4 Causes networking event in Richmond with twenty businesses. 

(62) Blaise Davenport (Information systems major) was awarded Most Outstanding Senior of the Year at the VSU Honor’s Convocation.

(63) Janay Samuel (Marketing major) helped host Diane Beirne (Director of Corporate Social Responsibility) from Primis Bank for teaming deliberations.

(64) Twelve students in Accounting Information Systems hosted Heather Reichardt (Manager of Indirect Tax) from Ernst & Young in the classroom.  A big thanks to Leah Hall for her hospitality!

(65) Twenty students in Operations Management hosted Vincent Vu (Owner) of Kinis in the classroom.  A big thanks to Simran Dhillon for her hospitality!

(66) Isaac Savage (Accounting major) was the Top Performer in Small-Group Role Play as assessed by Magellan Healthcare, Great Minds, ADP, and Orange County Schools.

(67) Andreanna Nembhard (Marketing major) earned a paid internship for the summer in Orlando at Disney. 

(68) Heaven Jenkins (Marketing major) was accepted to study abroad in Seville, Spain between May 11 -23; she will join Indacia Turner (Accounting major) as previously announced. 

(69) Diamond Fanning (Accounting major) earned a paid internship for the summer in accounting at KPMG in Richmond.

(70) Kayla Perkins (Marketing minor) earned a full time position for after graduation in May at Invstr, a Fintech company based in London, but will work remotely from Chesterfield.

(71) Aaliyah Duah (Management major) participated in the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals (NASAP) conference in Atlanta.

(72) Brandon Anderson (Information Systems major) and Blaise Davenport (Information Systems major) participated in a visit to the Smithsonian National African American Museum in D.C.

(73) Keren Bisimwa (Management/HR major), Iyana Logan (Management major), Winifred Kissieh (Accounting major), LyAsia Monroe (Management major), and Indacia Turner (Accounting major) visited Norfolk State University to participate in a National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) event.

(75) Aaliyah Duah (Management major) was named a 2023 McDonald’s Change Leader and will receive $20,000 for her company Financial Revolution.

(76) Kirsten Coghill (Management major), Justin Grandison (Management major), Alahna Knight (Marketing major), Jaylen McPherson (Management major), and Nia Winston (Management/HR major) participated in the Virginia’s Gateway Region annual dinner in Petersburg with fifty businesses.

(77) Forty-five students participated in Keiter Day including a lunch and learn with Alanna Johnson (Campus Recruiter) and Mandy Nevius (HR Director).

(78) Sixty students hosted Kevin Scott (Campus Recruiter) from WestRock in the classroom relevant to Intro to Business, Promotion Management, and Industrial Relations Collective Bargaining.  A big thanks to Louis Dabney, Jun Lim, and Sachiko Wooten for their hospitality!

(79) Twenty-five students participated in The Martin Agency Day including a lunch and learn with Matthew Garrett (Campus Recruiter) and a team of marketing associates.

(80) Jamilla Henderson (Management major) secured a LLC and launched her business Bedding and Bliss.

(81) Cameron Coram (Marketing minor) earning a full-time position for after graduation as a Teaching Aide in Prince Georges County Schools.

(82) Blaise Davenport (Information Systems major) was admitted to graduate school at Carnegie Mellon to earn a master's degree in Information Systems Management.

(84) Amel Frye (Management major), Andy Lordsamba (Management major) and Tony Tucker (Accounting major) were the Top Performers in Small-Group Role Play as assessed by BandyWorks, Evonik, Virginia Department of Education, Legacy Builders Real Estate Group, and Greensville County Public Schools.

(85) Tamir Campbell (Information Systems major) and Jujuan Peel (Management major) participated in a Southside Virginia Chamber of Commerce networking dinner with twenty businesses.

(86) Thirty students participated in Blue Ridge Bank Day including interviewing with Kristina Reardon (Associate Vice President) and Stephanie Rushin (Branch Manager).

(87) Forty students participated in IRD Day with Cary Davis (Special Investigator).

(88) Six students hosted Vaughan Long (Owner) from Tax Solutions Alliance in the classroom relevant to Intermediate Accounting II.  A big thanks to Art Wharton for his hospitality!

(89) Christian Cozart (Marketing minor) and Nylan Taylor (Marketing major) participated in the Metropolitan Business League dinner and awards show in Richmond with one hundred businesses.

(90) Amari Johnson (Marketing major) earned a paid internship for the spring at the Escape Room in Petersburg.

(91) Nolen Dey (Management major) earned an offer relevant to a full-time position for after graduation at Waffle House in the Manager-in-Training program.

(92) Danielle McNeil (Accounting major) earned a paid internship in accounting for the summer at PricewaterhouseCoopers. 

(93) Sakile Cobb (Marketing major) joined a team from Altria including Lashel Williamson (Associate Recruiting Manager) for dinner in Petersburg to discuss curriculum collaboration.

(94) Brett Hall (Management major) and Asia McCann (Marketing major) were the Top Performers in Small-Group Role Play as assessed by Lenovo, Travelers, Safal Partners, PIC Results, PNC, and Virginia Union University.

(95) Twenty students participated in Women Included Now Day including a book signing with Sarah Wilcox (Owner and Author).

(96) Thirty students participated in PNC Day with Jermaine Johnson (Regional President) and Brian Combs (Senior Vice President) including in the classroom relevant to Corporate Finance.  A big thanks to Jae-K Hwang for his hospitality!

(97) Destiny Henderson (Management major) was admitted to graduate school at George Washington University to earn a degree in Information Systems/Cybersecurity.

(98) Emanuel Harris (Marketing major) was accepted to The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) study abroad program and will travel to Japan this summer for two months to include an internship. 

(99) Indacia Turner (Accounting major) was accepted to study abroad in Seville, Spain between May 11 -23.

(100) Isaac Savage (Accounting major) was the Top Performer in Small-Group Role Play as assessed by Women Included Now, LegalShield, Grass Cutters, and Greensville County Public Schools.

(101) Ayrton Alcegaire (Information Systems major), Brandon Anderson (Information Systems major), Blaise Davenport (Information Systems major) and Indacia Turner (Accounting major) were invited to participate in the HBCU Battle of the Brains in Austin from March 7 -13.

(102) Isaac Savage (Accounting major) and Tony Tucker (Accounting major) were at the White House to perform for President Biden relevant to the VSU Marching Band.

(103) Trinity Burton (Accounting major) earned a paid internship in accounting for the semester at Harris, Hardy & Johnstone in Chesterfield.

(106) Fifteen students hosted Jonolyn Brevard Wills (Senior Internal Auditor) from The Commonwealth of Virginia in the classroom relevant to Auditing.  A big thanks to Joshua Nyantakyi for his hospitality!

(112) Scott Hill (Information Systems major) participated in the C-Suite Series Dinner and networking at the University of Richmond.

(113) Tyasia Williams (Management major) participated in a luncheon in Petersburg with Janet Brooks (Senior Manager) from Barton Malow.

(114) Malik Alston (Management major), Kenneth Davis (Marketing major), Ruqayah Ebrahim (Management major), and Indacia Turner (Accounting major) participated in a real estate networking event in Colonial Heights with forty businesses.

(115) Sydni Fonlon (Marketing major), Jasmine Pierce (Marketing major), Isaac Savage (Accounting major), Tony Tucker (Accounting major), and Indacia Turner (Management major) participated in the HBCU Battle of the Bands in Montgomery, Alabama and were featured on the NBC Today Show.

(116) Forty students participated in PricewaterhouseCoopers Day with Monique Daniels (Consulting Solutions Associate) and Jermaine Perrine (Digital Assurance & Transparency).

(117) Twenty students participated in Solelytics Day with Bryan Acheson (Owner).

(118) Twenty-five students hosted Sam Hayes (Owner) from Statageum in the classroom relevant to Business Communications.  A big thanks to Justin Griffin for his hospitality!

(120) Emony Edmonds (Management major) earned a paid internship for the balance of the semester at Harlem Hospital in New York.

(121) Jovante White (Accounting major) earned a paid internship for the balance of the semester at PCAOB working on auditing and regulatory affairs; Jovante will accept a full-time offer for after graduation in May at KPMG.

(122) Tyasia Williams (Management major) participated in the Airport Business Association networking event and four year anniversary in Henrico with forty companies.

(123) Malik Alston (Management major) participated in the C-Suite Series dinner and networking at the University of Richmond with twenty companies.

(125) Forty students participated in the VSU Career Expo and interfaced with ninety-five employers. 

(126) Ninety students participated in Altria/Thurgood Marshall College Fund Day including in the classroom.  A big thanks to Aurelia Donald for her hospitality!

(128) Twenty students participated in MPulse Boutique Day with Mary Kirkland (Owner).

(130) Asia McCann (Marketing major) and Emani Bryan (Management major) were the Top Performers in Small-Group Role Play as assessed by Kimley-Horn, C&F Bank, Growing Perspectives, and Virginia State University Credit Union.

(131) Fifty-five students participated in Virginia Credit Union Day including in the classroom relevant to Personal Finance Management with Angela Roisten (VP) and Andi Weissbart (Director of Financial Success).  A big thanks to Steve Holeman for his hospitality!

(132) Seventy students participated in Intact Technology Day including in the classroom relevant to Intro to Business with Angela Butler (Director of Operations).  A big thanks to Louis Dabney for his hospitality!

(133) Josalyn Green-Jones (Management major) earned a paid internship in marketing for the semester with Focus and Fabulous in Richmond.

(134) Danielle McNeil (Accounting major) earned a paid internship for the spring semester in financial reporting at VSU in Virginia Hall.

(135) Cikayla Neal (Marketing major) earned an internship in marketing for the spring semester at Kids on First in Chesterfield.

(136) Jaycee Lowe (Marketing major) earned a full-time position for after graduation in May at Cintas in Baltimore where she will participate in the Manager-in-Training program not unlike her predecessor, i.e. Sydney Yao (Marketing minor and 2019 grad).

(137) Basheer Oumhand (Accounting major) earned a full time position as a Project Manager at Emerge Construction in Richmond for after graduation in May; Basheer will work on the new Squirrels baseball stadium and Diamond District.

(138) Taylor Jordan (Management major) participated in a shadow visit with Ray Ferguson (CEO) at House Flipping Pros in Colonial Heights.

(139) Blaise Davenport (Information Systems major), Josalyn Green-Jones (Management major), and Jahnyah Jacobs (Management major) participated in a Retail Federation networking breakfast with leading industry including Home Depot, Walgreens, Dominion, etc. and joined Lt. Governor Winsome Sears along with Speaker of the House Todd Gilbert for conversations pertinent to business.

(140) Jaylen McPherson (Management major) and Jasmine Pierce (Marketing major) participated in the Gloucester Institute Emerging Leaders Program weekend visit with leaders in industry including e.g. Jackie Stone (Partner at McGuireWoods)

(141) Taylor Jordan (Management major) participated in an entrepreneurship networking event in Petersburg hosted by Mike King (Radio Host) from ESPN Radio.

(142) Amel Frye (Management major), Asia McCann (Marketing major), Keren Bisimwa (Management/HR major), Sydni Fonlon (Management major), Fesaija Foster (Information Systems major), and Nylan Taylor (Marketing major) were the Top Performers in Small-Group Role Play as assessed by Intact Technology, INROADS, Blue Beyond Consulting, Greater Richmond Partnership of Virginia, SQL Data Partners, Flemming Academy of Etiquette & Protocol, and Waffle House.

(143) Forty-two students hosted Brian Jamison (Cybersecurity Technology Strategist) from Microsoft in the classroom relevant to IT.  A big thanks to Aurelia Donald, Soma Akkaladevi, and Olumide O Malomo for their hospitality!

(144) Amari Johnson (Marketing major) earned an invite to participate in the American Marketing Association (AMA) mentoring program and has been assigned an industry mentor.

(145) Thirty students hosted Steve Armstrong (Owner of Armstrong Law) in the classroom relevant to Legal, Ethical, Digital.  A big thanks to Justin Griffin for his hospitality!

(146) Sixty-five students participated in Waffle House Day with Colin Mitchell (Recruiter).

(147) Seventy-five students participated in Focus and Fabulous Day with Sharone Reid (Owner). 

(148) Forty students participated in Vibrant Thang Wellness Day with Shonda Austin (Owner) including in the classroom relevant to Principles of Marketing.  A big thanks to Yun Lee for her hospitality!
