College of Business Fall 2023 Student Accomplishments

The Reginald F. Lewis College of Business at Virginia State University celebrated the following fall 2023 student accomplishments.  

(1) Iyana Logan (Accounting major) earned a $1,000 Diversity Matters scholarship from GRF CPAs; she joins Alex Dayle (Accounting major) in winning the scholarship as previously announced.

(2) Cynthia Davis (Accounting major) and Indacia Turner (Accounting major) earned a National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) scholarship.

(3) Aniya Omopariola (Marketing major) earned second place in the Metropolitan Business League Veteran’s Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition in Richmond.

(4) Jada Pinnock (Management major) launched her business Restricted World and participated in a pop up shop relevant to her clothing line.

(5) Tamir Campbell (Information Systems major) and Monique Simmons (Accounting major) participated in the C-Suite Series and dinner at the University of Richmond.

(6) Faye Izatt (Accounting major) earned an invite to participate in a visit to the KPMG Lakehouse in Florida from December 7-9 to meet with executives.

(7) Emanuel Harris (Marketing major) earned an invite to visit the French Embassy in D.C. on November 10th to lead a presentation relevant to fashion.

(8) Kendall Jones (Information Systems major) earned a paid IT internship for the summer at Northrop Grumman.

(9) Erica Quick (Accounting major) earned a paid accounting internship for the summer at PwC and will join Isaac Savage (Accounting major) as previously announced.

(10) Adaisha Jordan (Marketing major) earned a paid internship for next summer in Richmond at Spider Management relevant to managing investments; Adaisha shadowed Rebecca Fender (Director of Investor Relations) at Spider Management Company in Richmond.

(11) Marisa Greenhow (Marketing major) earned a paid internship for the summer at Dominion Energy.

(12) Asia McCann (Marketing major) earned a $1,000 scholarship from Verus Financial Partners.

(13) Amari Johnson (Marketing major) participated in the Virginia’s Gateway Region business council meeting held in Colonial Heights with Secretary of Commerce and Trade Caren Merrick.

(14) Jahnyah Jacobs (Management major) and Bob Obiora (Accounting major) earned a paid internship for the spring semester at Liberty Tax in Colonial Heights where they will be tax preparers.

(16) Josalyn Green-Jones (Management major), Jahnyah Jacobs (Management major) and Adaisha Jordan (Marketing major) attended the Metropolitan Business League’s Women Who Mean Business summit in Richmond at the Marriot with sixty businesses.

(17) Forty students participated in Ernst & Young (EY) Day with Ursule Nancy Essangabela (Manager). A big thanks to Ted Andrews and Joshua Nyantakyi for their hospitality!!

(18) Twenty students hosted Catherine Owens (Actress) from the TV show Swagger in the classroom relevant to Consumer Behavior. A big thanks to Jun Lim for his hospitality!!

(19) Twenty-five students participated in Prince George County Day with Makayla Christensen (Economic Development Specialist).

(20) Seven students participated in a workshop led by Sam Villalobos (Senior Project Engineer) from Skanska.

(21) Jazzmyn Bright (Marketing major), Tiara Clark (Management major), Makalaih Goree (Management major), Dominic Henderson (Management major), Marquis Mason (Marketing major), Ethan Morgan (Management major), Kenyetta Smith (Management major), Justin Staunton (Management major), Lavar Teal (Management major) and Tony Tucker (Accounting major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Ball Office Products, County of Dinwiddie, Metropolitan Business League, Richmond Region Tourism, Virginia Hispanic Foundation, and Carvana.

(22) Twelve students hosted Gurpreet Dhillon (Author) in the classroom relevant to Managing Organizational IT Security Risks. A big thanks Simran Dhillon for her hospitality!!

(23) Aniya Omopariola (Marketing major) earned an internship for the balance of the calendar year at ChamberRVA responsible for marketing Richmond cultural attractions to her colleagues at VSU.

(24) Sarah Diamond, Fesaija Foster, Keyona Hogue, Kendall Jones, Alanna LaVende and Daisha Wyatt (all Information Systems majors) earned the College of Business receipt of a $2,000 donation from Primis Bank; also of note, each of the ladies won a scholarship from Primis relevant to their participation in the Primis STEM Challenge constituting an artificial intelligence (AI) competition in concert with Appomattox Regional Governor’s School.

(29) Thirty students participated in Brooklyn Nets Day with Chris Carter (Group Sales Manager) and Taj Greene (Employee Experience Specialist).

(30) Twenty students participated in Republic Finance Day with Leo Hackenberg (Regional Vice President).

(31) Ten students hosted Pat Caine (CIO) and Kenton Gordon (Director of Cyber Security) from the Farm Bureau in the classroom relevant to Managing Organizational IT Security Risks. A big thanks to Simran Dhillon for her hospitality!!

(32) Aniya Omopariola (Marketing major) visited with Rolynn Wilson (Reporter) from ABC News.

(33) Six students hosted Amy Pintea (Accountant) from Brown Edwards in the classroom relevant to Federal Income Tax I. A big thanks to Ted Andrews for his hospitality!!

(34) Indacia Turner (Accounting major) earned a $1,500 scholarship from the Commercial Real Estate for Women; Indacia is our latest in winning the award following Aiyana Glover (Marketing major and 2018 grad), Alana Dawson (Marketing major and 2014 grad) and Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major and 2019 grad).

(35) Tatiana Irving (Entrepreneurship Minor), Aniya Omopariola (Marketing major), Justin Staunton (Management major) and Lavar Teal (Management major) participated in a real estate networking event with Ray Ferguson (CEO) at House Flipping Pros along with forty other businesses and attended a two hour class relevant to the market and if the Fed will again increase interest rates.

(36) Alex Dayle (Accounting major) earned a $1,000 Diversity Matters scholarship from GRF CPAs.

(37) Cynthia Davis (Accounting major), Jasmine Pierce (Marketing major) and Nylan Taylor (Marketing major) helped facilitate an Altria donation of $2,250 to our National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) chapter, $2,250 to our American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter, $2,250 to our Black Data Processing Association (BDPA) chapter and $250 to our Student Advisory Board.

(38) Avianca Jackson (Marketing major), Makenna Langston (Management major), Tamia Morgan (Accounting Major) and Indacia Turner (Accounting major) participated in the 15th Annual Financial Literacy Leadership Conference at the National Harbor.

(39) Iyana Logan (Accounting major) and Daisha Wyatt (Information Systems major) were selected to attend the My HBCU Matters Summit in Atlanta November 5th-7th.

(41) One hundred sixty students participated in Church & Dwight Day with Bob Franklin (HR Director), Caitlin Dodd (Director of Brand Management) and Sheldon Smith (Sales Leader) including in the classroom relevant to Legal/Ethical/Digital, Intro to Accounting, Principles of Marketing and Organization Policy and Strategy. (116) Fifteen students in the American Marketing Association hosted a team of executives from Arts & Letters Creative for workshops relevant to storyboarding TV commercials for their client, i.e. the NBA.

(123) Twenty students participated in Crystal Clear Financial Solutions Day with Crystal Suber (Owner).

(124) Sarah Diamond (Information Systems major), Fesaija Foster (Information Systems major), Keyona Hogue (Information Systems major), Kendall Jones (Information Systems major), Alanna LaVende (Information Systems major), and Daisha Wyatt (Information Systems major) were selected by Primis Bank to compete in an IT Artificial Intelligence Undergraduate Bridge competition alongside six high school students from Appomattox Regional Governor’s School (ARGS) for an opportunity to win a scholarship.

(125) Elijah Johnson (Marketing major) concluded a summer internship in the Office of Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Johnson.

(126) Josalyn Green-Jones (Management major) earned a $5,000 scholarship from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

(128) LyAsia Monroe (May 23 graduate and Economics graduate student) and Jasmine Pierce (Marketing major) participated in a Financial Alliance for Racial Equity (FARE) conference sponsored by Nationwide Insurance in Chicago.

(129) Nia Winston (Management/HR major) and Tyasia Williams (Management major) were invited by the National Black MBA Association to join the HBCU Scholar Cohort for 2023-2024 to include participation in an all-expenses paid conference in Philadelphia in September.

(130) Marquis Mason (Marketing major) earned an invite to represent Coca-Cola as an ambassador on the VSU campus.

(132) Jamilla Henderson (Management major) earned a WomenRise Scholarship relevant to young moms achieving academically while working.

(133) Aniya Omopariola (Marketing major) visited with dozens of executives at Startup VA in Richmond to learn branding and all things entrepreneurship.

(134) Josalyn Green-Jones (Management major) was invited to be featured on a panel at a RVA Collab event to be attended by scores of industry representatives in Richmond.

(135) Naiya Ray (Marketing major) earned a paid internship in marketing for the balance of the summer at the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce.

(136) Mia Bennett (Marketing major) earned an internship for the balance of the summer at Edison Electric Institute in D.C.

(137) Cynthia Davis (Accounting major) earned first place in the nation at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competition pertinent to Business Ethics in Atlanta. Altogether, nine students competed in the intercollegiate contests.

(138) Students in the College’s Entrepreneurship Curriculum and their outstanding work contributed to The Minority Small Business Launch Center at Virginia State University winning 5th Place at the Triple E International Award for Entrepreneurship Excellence in Higher Education. (139) Sydni Fonlon (Marketing major) earned an internship for the summer in business development at Blu Lite LED in Maryland.

(140) Indacia Turner (Accounting major) earned a $1,250 scholarship from the Institute for Internal Auditors.

(141) Jayahna Jenkins (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer in Chester managing operations at the Chesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry (CCHASM).

(143) Brandon Anderson (Information Systems major) attended an ESPN townhall conversation on the radio in Petersburg relevant to entrepreneurship; Brandon owns and operates a fitness business.
