About Conference Services
Along with coordinating all non-University conferences, events, and special projects held on University property, the Department of Conference Services also conducts several other tasks such as:- Planning and developing procedures for implementing specific related programs and maximize community use of the university’s facilities.
- Proposes and implements policies and procedures to meet the requirements of the University as well as State and Federal regulations.
- When planning events the department is always in compliance with University policies and procedures, while minimizing scheduling and resource conflicts.
Mission Statement
The primary mission of Conference Services is to successfully schedule and organize special events, as well as summer camp programs.
This department serves to both internal and external clientele, as an agent of Virginia State University to contract and provide quality customer services and facilities for events held on VSU campus. Conference Services strives to provide students with an environment that gives hands on learning experiences through internships and work-study. The Department of Conferences has expanded to include on campus scheduling through Virtual EMS, and is now the centralized location for scheduling for both off-campus and on-campus events.
Background
The facilities of the University exist for the primary purpose of assisting the University in fulfilling the University’s educational mission. The University seeks to enrich members of the University community through its academic, cultural, and athletic programs and events. Furthermore, the University is committed to being an integral part of our surrounding community. Accordingly, the University’s resources are to be used by students, faculty, and staff, and when appropriate, sponsored groups and organizations not affiliated with the University. The University reserves the right to deny the use of its facilities to any individual or group whose planned activity or event does not enhance the University’s educational mission, or whose planned activity or event does not enhance the potential cost problems. Furthermore, the University reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a scheduled event when it conflicts with University affairs or events sponsored by the University.
