VSU Young Alumni Advisory Council
The Virginia State University Young Alumni Advisory Council (YAAC) seeks to actively involve Virginia State University alumni under the age of 40. The 12 member council’s mission is to assist the Office of Institutional Advancement in fostering young alumni engagement and to help guide future initiatives as a result of our recently launched strategic plan, Preeminence with Purpose. YAAC operates under the direction of the Office of Institutional Advancement and serves as a streamlined focus group and provides key insight and feedback on engagement, development, and fundraising. Members will connect back with their alma mater and network with fellow alumni while also working to better support young and future alumni to build increased and enhanced connection to each other and the University.
Strong candidates are young alumni (under the age of 40) who are proud of their alma mater and possess a demonstrated continuing interest in Virginia State through contributions of time, talent, or monetary support. They are Trojans with a diverse perspective of experience with demonstrated leadership ability, professional or volunteer background and/or achievements that add value to the council.
Attendance is required for two on-campus meetings per year and in quarterly council meetings by conference/video call. Candidates are encouraged to consider personal and career priorities during the coming years in addition to their desire to contribute to the strategic goals of the Institutional Advancement Office and University. Membership is a two year commitment. Council members can serve no more than 4 years or past the age of 40, whichever comes first.
