Current Criminal Justice and Sociology Students
Here are a few tidbits to ensure that you are on track to graduate on time:
- Regularly talk to your advisor to confirm that you are taking the right classes and in the right sequence
- Familiarize yourself with the curriculum for your major
- Follow directions and helpful suggestions from your professors and advisors
- Develop routines or rituals that will enhance your consistent comprehension, learning, retention, recall, and application of material from classes, seminars, and workshops
- Establish goals and intentions for every semester or term.
- You must always have a completed curriculum sheet with you when you visit your academic advisor.
- You should always contact your advisor prior to registration and several times during the semester.
Using the curriculum sheet to track progress
- To keep track of your progress in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, you may use the electronic curriculum or hardcopies (available in the Department) to record all courses that you successfully complete.
- Degree works transcripts should also be helpful
- Follow the instructions below to complete the curriculum. You need at least a C or better grade for all your major requirements and for composition I and II.
- Exclude all classes with D grades in your major because you HAVE to RETAKE them all
- When you use hardcopies of the curriculum sheets, sociology majors should use the pink curriculum sheets while criminal justice students use the blue ones.
- Please be sure to look at the sample before completing your form, but always remember, you must always let your advisor see your updated curriculum sheets to confirm their accuracy.
- To determine what courses qualify as general education, download the pdf file “General Education Requirements List.” When in doubt, contact your advisor.
- The general education courses are those listed as Global Studies, History, Humanities, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Technology, and Wellness & Health (HPER). Sociology majors cannot use any sociology course to satisfy the social science requirements. Similarly, criminal justice majors cannot use criminal justice classes for general ed. social science.
- To keep track of your courses use the Substitution Course column to list all courses that are NOT stated on the sheet. For example, if you take HPER 170, list it in the Substitution Course column because we do not specify HPER 170 on the curriculum sheet. However, courses like CJUS 116, CJUS 212 etc. do NOT need to be listed in the Substitution Course column because they are specified on the sheet.
