Africana Studies
The Africana Studies minor is a multidisciplinary program that combines the study, research, interpretation, and the dissemination of knowledge concerning the African presence in Africa, the Americas, Europe, and other parts of the world from the birth of human civilization to the present.
Students are introduced to critical and theoretical perspectives for the multicultural approach to the historical, political, and socioeconomic realities of peoples of African descent.In this program, you will examine the African-American cultural experience and the similarities and differences among the cultures of peoples of African origin, while considering the values of these cultures and the continuity and change among geographical areas over time.Students in any school at Virginia State University may declare the Minor in Africana Studies.
Africana Studies Minor
The Africana Studies Minor requires 18 semester hours. A grade of “C” or above must be earned in any course counted toward the minor.
