Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science at VSU will learn through a variety of coursework and seminars, plus have many opportunities to participate in internships, field trips and student organizations related to politics.
Besides courses in political science and analysis, students will gain a broad overview of our nation’s past and present with classes in history and government, plus classes in economics. The program is rounded out with courses in math and statistics, the humanities, and English composition. A thesis is required in the senior year.
Students in the BA program are not required to complete an internship, but it is highly recommended.
Assessment in the Major
All political science majors, in their junior year, are required to take the Comprehensive Assessment Examination. This is a major component of the Department’s continuing commitment to academic excellence, and is designed to assess students’ basic knowledge of political science concepts, principles and facts in the areas of local, state, U.S. and comparative government.
