The Association for Computing Machinery

The Association for Computing Machinery Chapter at Virginia State University chapter’s members are continuously active within the Department of Computer Science and the campus as a whole. ACM members provide mentorship, tutoring, and extra-curricular support for their peers to ensure that students within the Department of Computer Science meet the rigorous academic standards expected and uphold the code of ethics as described by Association of Computing Machinery.

The academic year beginning Fall 2018 through Spring 2019 saw several ACM Members achieving academic and professional success, securing internships, and providing stellar leadership for the student body. At least 15 ACM Members secured internships and full-time offers. This was no doubt due to the focus that ACM members placed on preparing for technical interviews. Additionally, At least ten (10) ACM members were honored by the Department of Engineering and Computer Science for their academic performance.

The Spring 2019 semester saw the ACM Chapter partnering with the VSU NSBE chapter, the Department of Engineering and Computer Science, and IBM to organize and host the first ever VSU hackathon. The event was postponed until the upcoming School Year beginning Fall 2019 and will represent a pivotal moment in the history of the Department of Engineering and Computer Science. The ACM Chapter hopes to use the event as a catalyst to foster a culture of coding outside of the classroom.
